Left San Blas in the morning to return to Panama City for one last night. The trip back is a three hour drive by 4x4 across Panamanian jungle/mountains. To offer a clue on how rough the ride was, the guy sitting in the front of the vehicle blew chunks out the window at least a dozen times and made the rest of us feel more than a touch queezy ourselves. I did manage to keep my spider crab down though. Got back to the hostel and had a much needed shower and shave and headed out for a final dinner and spontaneous salsa in Panama City. It's been super great so far and while not an automatic choice for a holiday, I'd throughly recommend Panama for a week or so any day of the week.
Travellers Tip - if a taxi driver in Panama City asks you for a ridiculous fare back to your hostel late at night, pay the man and damn his impudence.
I caught a $3 cab the other way into the old part of town today in broad daylight, and we were going through the bits I'd been walking home in, mostly a little the worse for wear and with all of my worldly goods on my person. He insisted that we roll up the windows, lock doors and got me to duck down through those parts where I'd been merrily strolling in darkness. It did give me some pause for thought. Caught a $7 cab home.
Oh, and for the record, the $7 guy also rolled up the windows and locked the doors.
Home for a couple of nights.
